Education/Youth:

  1. Project Hope: one of the largest NGOs in the West Bank, Project Hope brings in foreigners from all over the world to teach— typically including English, French, Spanish, Italian, German. They will often place inexperienced teachers in day-camps during the summer. There are also special opportunities including photography, circus, and medical training. 
    • You can also arrange not to teach and just sign up for the intensive Arabic program which they offer.
    • Housing with them is above the reasonable rent for locals here, but they do offer the simplicity of not having to arrange housing on your own. Their volunteer coordinator also regularly organizes activities. 
  2. Tomorrow’s Youth Organization: a non-profit focusing on youth and women’s empowerment programs. Contact them at internships@tomorrowsyouth.org
  3. Yafa Cultural Center: inside Balata Refugee Camp in Nablus, this center focuses on educational, psycho-social, and medical programs for the inhabitants of the camp. Contact them directly to talk about volunteering and housing. 
  4. Palestine Society for Care and Development: volunteer with refugees and live in Al-Amari Refugee Camp.
  5. Aida Youth Center: near the entrance to the camp, next to the big key, contact them to discuss volunteer options.

Circus/Arts/Music/Theatre:

  1. Freedom Theatre (located in Jenin, 1 hour north of Nablus): famous for being the largest and longest running theatre and acting program in Palestine, originally created by Israeli activist Arna and her son Juliano (from the documentary Arna’s Children), this program does photography, acting, and other arts programs for boys and girls of Jenin Refugee Camp (offers free accommodation).  
  2. Al Kamandjati: provides music education and training for children in the West Bank with their headquarters in Ramallah (other offices throughout the West Bank). 
  3. Al Rowwad: a theatre and arts association located in Aida Refugee Camp in Bethlehem, focusing on children in the camps.
  4. Salon Al-Fan (Art Cafe): youth-led initiative which you can contact directly through their Facebook page. They focus on arts, music, dance, circus, trainings and events in order to increase the availability and accessibility of arts programs and events in Nablus. They are a new organization (created in 2018). 
  5. Nablus Circus School: a volunteer run circus school which has been around since 2004. They train children and teenagers in all methods of circus performance and have in the past use foreign volunteers in their training programs.

  1. Hebron Rehabilitation Committee: created to monitor the situation in the Old City of Hebron, they document human rights violations and is responsible for the impressive rehabilitation of buildings in the Old City bringing back residents, businesses, organizations, and overall life to the Old City.   2. Youth Against Settlements: based directly next to the Tel Rumeida settlement in Hebron, they offer volunteer housing, and you can arrange directly with them the sort of project you would like to carry out. They focus largely on advocacy and programing regarding the settlements and closures inside the “closed area”/H2 of Hebron. Apply to volunteer directly through their website.

  1. Area D Hostel: you can volunteer part-time and receive free lodging in return, located in the heart of Ramallah. 
  2. Volunteer Palestine: a “complete package” volunteering experience based out of Bethlehem where the organization will find you a volunteering experience based on your expertise/interests, arrange a homestay for you, and plan cultural immersion activities. While it is over-priced given local rent and food costs, for first-time travelers the ease of not having to plan much on your own may be worth it. Note: they do an amazing job of redistributing your volunteer payment into the local community. 
  3. Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability: an institute focusing on biodiversity maintenance and environmentalism in the region, their website provides more specifics on their activities and volunteer process.
